Most single crystals of CVD synthetic diamonds are plate-shaped, with occasional small octahedral and diamond-shaped twelve-faceted edges. Earlier CVD synthetic diamonds were mostly dark brown or light brown in color, while recently discovered CVD synthetic diamonds have been shown to be colorless or nearly colorless due to late heat treatment.
