Lab Created Diamonds Description
Lab grown diamonds, as the name suggests, are diamonds grown in laboratories. By using natural or artificial diamonds as seed crystals, the synthetic diamond layer is grown in a laboratory environment that mimics the conditions in which natural diamonds are grown. Natural diamond and cultivated diamond are pure carbon crystals, crystal structure, physical properties, chemical properties, optical properties of the two are exactly the same.
The physical, chemical and optical properties are the same, so are lab grown diamonds real or not? The nurturing diamond industry often uses these analogies to answer this question: lab grown diamonds and natural diamonds are like greenhouse flowers and natural flowers. They are both flowers, but they grow in different environments. Lab grown diamonds and natural diamonds is like ice in a refrigerator and ice in nature. They are both ice, but they are formed in different circumstances...
It takes millions of years for natural diamonds to form. Before a volcano erupts, because the crater is often blocked, the hot magma rising from about 150 ~ 200 kilometers deep in the earth's crust can only slowly cool down in the crater. At this time, the pure carbon material pressure is 4.5 ~ 6*10^9Pa. When the temperature drops to 1000 ~ 1250°C, it will crystallize and form natural diamonds. There are only a few places deep in the earth that have the physical and chemical conditions for diamonds to form.
But the growing conditions that produce natural diamonds in nature can now be simulated in the laboratory, using HPHT (high temperature and pressure) or CVD (chemical vapor deposition) techniques to produce gem-grade lab grown diamonds in just a few weeks.
