Artificial Lab Created Diamonds Description
Diamonds are simply pure carbon bound together extremely tightly. Since then, researchers around the world have been pouring in the hope of building similarly compact structures in the lab.
As many people know, diamonds are extremely pure carbon. Graphite, too, is pure carbon, but because graphite's carbon atoms are loose, diamond's atoms are very tightly packed, which gives diamonds not only their chemical stability, but their physical strength.
There are two main types of gem-grade synthetic diamonds:
1. HTHP synthetic diamond (static pressure method)
HTHP synthetic method is mainly produced by BARS press. This method has low cost and small volume, but only one diamond can be synthesized at a time. Most high temperature and high pressure synthetic diamond to yellow, brown, low price, more as a substitute for natural color diamond.
2. CVD synthetic diamond (Chemical vapor precipitation)
CVD diamond synthesis technology appeared in 1952, there are many specific chemical methods, such as plasma method, hot wire method and other chemical methods. CVD diamond technology is also becoming more mature, producing diamonds that are difficult to identify with the naked eye.

CVD diamond synthesis has been able to successfully push the nurturing diamond market into new territory for the following reasons:
1. Can change the color of the diamond
The color of natural diamonds is also changed by the addition of other elements in nature during the growth process, and some are also caused by defects in the crystal structure. Yellow diamonds, for example, are discolored by nitrogen as they grow, blue is likely due to boron, and green is caused by radiation that displaces carbon atoms in the crystal structure.
CVD diamonds, on the other hand, can change the color of the gem by adding chromophore to hydrocarbon gas during the growth of their seed disks. Large carats of pink, blue, and yellow diamonds are available, and some of the colors are so good that the GIA report calls them Fancy Intense or Fancy.
2.CVD diamonds are more pure inside
We have already introduced the manufacturing method of CVD diamond in the previous article. Because its growth environment is more gas, rather than HPHT diamond with metal cosolvent, the biggest advantage of CVD diamond is very pure inside. The clarity is generally in VVS1-SI1, most can be above VS2. The most rare thing about CVD diamonds is that almost all CVD diamonds are Type IIa, which is destined to be produced to be comparable with natural diamonds. This is why CVD diamonds are generally of better quality than natural diamonds.
