HPHT is short for High pressure-high Temperature treatment. Its purpose is to change or improve the natural body color of certain types of diamonds to make them more valuable. 

 

HPHT stands for high pressure and high temperature method, one of the main methods used in laboratories to make diamonds. The diamond growth process involves exposing carbon to extreme temperatures and pressures that mimic the extreme heat and pressure conditions in which natural diamonds form deep inside the Earth.

 

The diamond seed is placed under specially engineered pressure conditions. Heat the growth chamber to 1300-1600 °C at a pressure of more than 870,000 pounds per square inch. The molten metal breaks down high-purity carbon sources. Carbon atoms are deposited on a small diamond seed, and the synthetic diamond begins to grow. This lab-made crystal is then cut by a diamond cutter and grinder.
