Lab diamonds are real diamonds. Carbon is the main element of natural and laboratory-grown diamonds. The chemical and physical properties of synthetic diamonds are same as natural diamonds in terms of hardness, thermal conductivity, and strength. After polishing and cutting lab-grown diamonds are same as natural diamonds. they have the same brightness and fire.

HTHP and CVD are the two main methods for making laboratory-grown diamonds.
High temperature and high pressure method (HTHP) uses graphite as raw material. HPHT diamonds are manufactured at a pressure of 5-6 GPA (approximately the pressure produced by a commercial jet landing on a human fingertip) and a temperature of 1300-1600°C.

CVD diamonds come from various gases, such as methane. They are stored in a vacuum chamber, which decomposes the molecules of the gas, and then these molecules gather on the pre-existing diamond seeds.CVD (chemical vapor deposition) diamond is based on a natural bare diamond. With the assistance of high-purity methane, hydrogen, nitrogen and other gases, the carbon molecules in methane and diamond are continuously accumulated on the original diamond in a high-pressure way in a microwave oven. After layer by layer proliferation, transparent diamond as large as 10 carats can be formed. In order to make CVD diamond grow smoothly, methane with diamond structure is often used as carbon source. Methane can be regarded as a monatomic diamond pressed out by hydrogen. The quality of this "grown" diamond is almost the same as that of natural diamond, which is hard to distinguish with the naked eye. CVD diamond is a kind of synthetic diamond produced by high technology, and its material is mainly carbon, just like natural diamond. Its hardness, density, thermal conductivity, brightness, flash and fire color are almost the same as those of natural diamonds.
